Abd-al Rahm\u00e1n I, fundador del Emirato de C\u00f3rdoba y su primer Emir (756-788), conocido tambi\u00e9n como al-Dakhil, o “el Inmigrante”, evoca su tierra natal en su famoso poema a la palmera.<\/em> Aqu\u00ed ofrecemos la traducci\u00f3n al ingl\u00e9s de Alois Richard Nykl y una traducci\u00f3n al espa\u00f1ol de la traducci\u00f3n de Nykl por Santiago Dayd\u00ed-Tolson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A palm tree I beheld in Ar-Rusafa
Far in the West, far from the palm-tree land:
I said: You, like myself, are far away, in a strange land;
How long have I been far away from my people!
You grew up in a land where you are a stranger,
And like myself, are living in the farthest corner of the earth:
May the morning clouds refresh you at this distance,
And may abundant rains comfort you forever!*

Vi en Ar-Rusafa una palmera
distante en el oeste, lejos del lugar de las palmeras.
–T\u00fa, como yo–le dije–est\u00e1s muy lejos, en una tierra ajena.
\u00a1Cu\u00e1nto tiempo he estado lejos de mi gente!
Has crecido en un pa\u00eds en que eres extranjera,
y como yo, vives en el rinc\u00f3n m\u00e1s lejano del mundo:
Que en esta lejan\u00eda te refresquen las nubes matutinas
